Napalm Death are an English grindcore band from Meriden in the West Midlands, formed in 1981. None of the founding members remain. The current line-up is Barney Greenway on vocals, Shane Embury on bass, John Cooke on guitar and Danny Herrera on drums. They are widely credited as pioneers of grindcore, mixing crust punk with death metal: down-tuned, distorted guitars, blast beats, growls and shrieks, very short songs and sociopolitical lyrics.

Drummer Mick Harris joined in 1985 and pushed the band's speed to new extremes. Their 1987 debut, Scum, came out on Earache Records and proved hugely influential across metal and punk. From Enslavement to Obliteration followed in 1988. By Harmony Corruption in 1990 they had moved towards death metal, with longer, more involved songs. Utopia Banished (1992) is also among their best-known records. They have kept releasing albums ever since, most recently Savage Imperial Death March in 2025.
