Carcass
Carcass are an English extreme metal band from Liverpool, formed in 1985. Guitarist Bill Steer and bassist-vocalist Jeff Walker are the only constant members. They began in the grindcore and goregrind camp with Reek of Putrefaction in 1988 and Symphonies of Sickness the following year. Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious followed in 1991, pushing them towards a more technical form of death metal.
Heartwork arrived in 1993 and is the record most people point to first. Columbia handled its North American distribution, which is rare for an extreme metal act, while Earache distributed it worldwide. Swansong closed the first chapter in 1996, when the band split. They reformed in 2007 without original drummer Ken Owen, for health reasons, and have since added Surgical Steel (2013) and Torn Arteries (2021). Fans of Napalm Death, At the Gates and Arch Enemy will feel at home here.
