Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious

Popularity51.7

Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious is the third studio album by Carcass, the English extreme metal band, and it came out on 30 October 1991 through Earache Records. North American listeners got it from Relativity Records on 11 February 1992.

It is the first Carcass record to feature guitarist Michael Amott, and the first they made as a four-piece. Following on from Symphonies of Sickness, it pushes further towards death metal and away from the band's grindcore roots, with longer sections and more intricate song structures that sit close to the technical death metal then taking shape. Lyrically, many tracks set out thrifty ways of disposing of dead bodies, in the band's usual darkly comic style. It is a key step between their early work and Heartwork, which followed in 1993.
