The Singles gathers the Clash's 7-inch releases in one place, using the original single versions rather than album cuts. It came out in November 1991 on Columbia, and it sits between the band's studio run, from The Clash in 1977 to Combat Rock in 1982, and the later reappraisals that followed.

Two singles are missing: the free Capital Radio EP from 1977, and "This Is England" from 1985, which came from Cut the Crap, an album the band had disowned. There is also a detail for completists. This collection has the actual A-side of "This Is Radio Clash", whereas other compilations, including Super Black Market Clash and the US version of The Essential Clash, offer the B-side "Radio Clash" under that title. A remastered edition with slightly altered artwork followed in 1999.
