Frame by Frame: The Essential King Crimson
Frame by Frame: The Essential King Crimson is a four-CD retrospective box set from the English progressive rock band, released by Caroline Records on 4 November 1991. It gathers material from across their career to date, a span that runs from the debut In the Court of the Crimson King in 1969 through the 1980s records Discipline, Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair.
It was the first of several Crimson compilations to arrive in quick succession. A second four-CD set, The Great Deceiver, followed the next year, and the single-disc Sleepless: The Concise King Crimson came in 1993. For anyone wanting a broad overview of a band that kept changing shape, this box is a sensible place to start before heading into the individual albums.
