Live at Summit Studios, Denver March 12, 1972
Live at Summit Studios captures King Crimson in Denver, Colorado on 12 March 1972, during one of their American tours. It began as a radio session and came out through the King Crimson Collector's Club in February 2000, on Discipline Global Mobile. It belongs to the Islands-era band, with Ian Wallace on drums, and he wrote the liner notes, looking back on the Denver show and his time in the group across 1971 and 1972.
What makes it worth hearing is the way the night strayed from the usual script. The band's trademark Mellotron was missing, which led to an unusual setlist and two long collective improvisations. Wallace also contributes "My Hobby", a short comedy piece in the spirit of Monty Python. The recording was later reissued in high resolution and surround sound on an audio DVD with the 40th Anniversary Edition of Earthbound.
