Live at the Marquee 1969
Live at the Marquee 1969 is a concert album by King Crimson, released in 1998 as the first title in the King Crimson Collector's Club. It comes from an audience recording made at London's Marquee Club in July 1969, and Robert Fripp wrote the liner notes. The sound is rough, since it was taken from a low-quality bootleg.
It catches the band in their first year, around the time of their debut, In the Court of the Crimson King. The closing track, recorded a few months later at Fairfield Halls in Croydon, is the only known recording of "Trees". That piece contains music that resurfaced in "A Man, A City"/"Pictures of a City" on In the Wake of Poseidon, and in "Wishbone Ascension" from McDonald and Giles. It comes from an even poorer source than the Marquee set, but it is a rare glimpse of ideas in development, which makes the album one for dedicated fans.
