February 27, 1972: Kemp Coliseum, Orlando, FL
This live album captures King Crimson at Kemp Coliseum in Orlando, Florida, on 27 February 1972, and it was released in 2003 on Discipline Global Mobile. It comes from a restless stretch in the band's story. Islands had appeared the year before, and the group had gone through a run of personnel changes since the success of In the Court of the Crimson King in 1969.
That same year, 1972, Robert Fripp took the band in a new direction, bringing in Bill Bruford, John Wetton, David Cross and Jamie Muir. Their approach leaned on European free improvisation and avant-garde classical ideas, and it led to Larks' Tongues in Aspic in 1973. For anyone curious about how Crimson sounded on stage as they moved from one era to the next, this is a worthwhile document of that shift.
