Level Five
Level Five is a live EP from King Crimson, released on 9 November 2001 on the Discipline Global Mobile label. It sits between The ConstruKction of Light (2000) and The Power to Believe (2003), in the years when the band worked as a "Double Duo" quartet.
For anyone following the band's story, it offers a glimpse of that heavier, industrial-influenced sound before it settled into the studio album that followed. King Crimson have always drawn on a wide range of ideas, from jazz and classical to heavy metal and experimental music, and a live record is a good place to hear how those influences were put to work on stage. It's a useful stop for listeners who want to follow the band through their early 2000s chapter, led throughout by guitarist Robert Fripp.
