Earthbound
Earthbound is a live King Crimson album, released on 9 June 1972 by Island as a budget record. It arrived shortly after the band line-up that played on it had split, so it works as a snapshot of a group already gone. It features the band's first official live version of "21st Century Schizoid Man", a stretched-out live take on "Groon", the 1970 non-LP B-side, and two improvised pieces with scat vocals from Boz Burrell.
The sound is rough. Engineer Hunter MacDonald recorded the shows onto cassette, reportedly in the rain from the back of a Volkswagen truck, and Atlantic declined to release it in the US and Canada because of the quality. Later CD reissues could not fix that, so go in expecting grit rather than polish. An expanded CD and DVD edition followed on 13 November 2017, adding tracks and hi-res audio.
