Live in Guildford, November 13, 1972 is a concert recording by King Crimson, released in 2003 on the Discipline Global Mobile label. It captures the band in the year Robert Fripp rebuilt the group, bringing in Bill Bruford, John Wetton, David Cross and Jamie Muir after the unsettled run of albums that followed their 1969 debut, In the Court of the Crimson King.
That line-up leaned towards European free improvisation and avant-garde classical ideas, and it went on to make Larks' Tongues in Aspic in 1973. A recording from late 1972 therefore finds this new music in its early stages, before the studio album was out. For anyone who knows the trio-era records Starless and Bible Black and Red, it is a chance to hear where that adventurous, improvisation-minded approach began on stage.
