The Singles

Popularity31.5

The Singles is a box-set compilation from the Clash, released on 30 October 2006. It gathers every single the band put out in the UK, presented with their original mixes and edits and the B-sides that came with them, along with singles issued in other parts of the world.

The packaging is part of the appeal. Each disc sits in a sleeve that reproduces the design of the original single, inside a protective cover, and the CDs are made to look like miniature vinyl records, with a grooved texture, a black data side and a copy of the record label at the centre. It suits a band whose catalogue ran from punk into dub, reggae, dancehall, disco and electronic experiments, and it lets you follow that journey one single at a time.
