Wake Up and Smell the… Carcass
Wake Up and Smell the… Carcass is a compilation from the death metal band Carcass, released on 12 November 1996 through Earache Records. The title also belongs to a video and DVD collection of the band's songs, so it's worth knowing which one you're picking up. The sleeve uses a photograph of John F. Kennedy's autopsy, which suits a group who never shied away from the clinical and the grisly.
It arrived the same year as Swansong, the album that closed the band's original run of studio records, which began with Reek of Putrefaction in 1988 and took in Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious and Heartwork along the way. As a compilation, it gives newcomers and returning fans a way to hear the band's songs gathered in one place before their return with Surgical Steel in 2013.
