Nico
Nico is a compilation from Blind Melon, released by Capitol Records on 12 November 1996. It arrived after the death of singer Shannon Hoon in 1995 from a cocaine overdose, and it takes its name from his daughter, Nico Blue. Money from sales went into a college trust set up for her.
The record gathers unreleased material, including songs Hoon began and the band completed after his death. There are also alternative versions of earlier tracks, "No Rain" and "St. Andrew's Hall", plus covers of Hoyt Axton's "The Pusher" and John Lennon's "John Sinclair". It sits between the band's second album, Soup, from 1995, and their return with For My Friends in 2008, which makes it a fitting companion for anyone who wants to hear what Blind Melon were working on in Hoon's final period.
