Classic Masters

Popularity12.3

Classic Masters is a compilation from Blind Melon, released by Capitol Records on 29 January 2002. It gathers material from the alternative rock band's career, a story that by then spanned two studio albums, Blind Melon in 1992 and Soup in 1995, with For My Friends still to come in 2008.

It's a collection with a quirk worth knowing about. Several tracks appear in versions that differ from the originals, and the music press noticed quickly, grumbling about it on release. "Mouthful of Cavities" is the clearest example, losing the spoken opening from frontman Shannon Hoon, where he asks a listener to hear the cats outside an open window. Fans who know the albums well may prefer the full versions, but this is a handy way into the band's songs.
