Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is Dream Theater's sixth studio album, released on 29 January 2002 through Elektra. It arrived as a double-disc set, following Metropolis, Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory in 1999 and preceding Train of Thought in 2003. It was the first full-length record by the American progressive metal band to carry a title track.
The sheer scale is part of the appeal. Among their studio albums, only The Astonishing, from 2016, runs longer, so this is a record that gives the band room to stretch out across two discs. If you like your heavy metal mixed with progressive rock ambition, and enjoy an album that asks for an evening rather than a quick listen, it is a rewarding place to spend time in the Dream Theater catalogue.
