7
7 is a U2 EP that came out on 22 January 2002, sold exclusively through Target stores in the United States. It gathers B-sides from the singles taken from All That You Can't Leave Behind, tracks that American fans had not been able to get hold of until then. The title nods to its seven songs, and the price at the time was close to seven US dollars.
It sits in the wake of U2's 2000 album, and it works as a tidy tidying-up of that era's odds and ends for listeners in the States. The name is also a tip of the hat to 3, the band's first release, so there's a pleasing bit of symmetry for those who like to follow the group's story from its beginnings. Released by Interscope Records, it is a handy companion for anyone who loves that record.
