Album
Zooropa
Zooropa is U2's eighth studio album, released on 5 July 1993 on Island Records. It followed Achtung Baby and pushed further into the alternative rock, electronic dance music and studio effects that record had introduced. Flood, Brian Eno and the Edge produced it, and its themes of technology and media overload grew straight out of the Zoo TV Tour.
It began as an EP, written and recorded in Dublin in February 1993 during a six-month break between tour legs. The band widened it into a full album, drawing on fresh ideas and leftovers from the Achtung Baby sessions. They were still finishing it as the tour restarted, shuttling between Dublin and tour stops. The singles were "Numb", "Lemon" and "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)". It won the 1994 Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, and many critics rate it among the band's most inventive work.
