Suicidal Tendencies
Suicidal Tendencies' self-titled debut came out on 5 July 1983 on Frontier Records. It is a hardcore punk and skate punk record from the American band, and it was the first of a run of studio albums that stretches through to 2018's Still Cyco Punk After All These Years.
The song that carried it furthest was "Institutionalized", the album's only single. Its video was one of the first from a hardcore band to get airplay on MTV, and that exposure brought the group considerable popularity. The record went on to rank among the best-selling and most successful hardcore punk albums, and it won over fans and critics alike. It also left a mark on what followed: its influence fed into the emerging thrash metal scene and the crossover thrash that grew out of it. If you want to hear where punk speed and metal weight began to meet, this is a good place to start.
