Suicidal: Friends & Family (Epic Escape)
Friends & Family, Vol. 1, subtitled "Epic Escape", is a compilation put out by Suicidal Records, the label run by Suicidal Tendencies singer Mike Muir. It gathers material from several acts in the band's circle, including Suicidal Tendencies themselves and Infectious Grooves. The subtitle marks the band's departure from Epic Records, home to much of their late 1980s and early 1990s output.
It's a handy snapshot of a band finding its feet as an independent concern, and a few tracks have afterlives. "Scream Out" and "We Are Family" were re-recorded for Freedumb in 1999, while Cyco Miko's "Big Fat Baby" revisits "Lost My Brain (Once Again)" from his 1995 album of the same name. Worth a spin for anyone who wants to hear the early versions. Released on 23 December 1997.
