August and Everything After
August and Everything After is the debut album from Counting Crows, released on 14 September 1993 through Geffen. T Bone Burnett produced it, with Adam Duritz on vocals, Charlie Gillingham on keyboards, David Bryson on guitar, Matt Malley on bass and Steve Bowman on drums. David Immerglück guested as a session player, years before joining the band full-time in 1999.
It is the record that introduced the band, and its biggest single, "Mr. Jones", reached number 5 on the Billboard US Radio Songs chart. The album itself peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and has sold over seven million copies in the US. Look closely at the sleeve and you will find handwritten lyrics to the title track, a song the band kept off the record and did not play live for more than a decade. Its folk-rock and Americana leanings make it a lasting listen.
