Maiden Japan
Maiden Japan is a live EP by Iron Maiden, issued by EMI in September 1981. In Japan it came out under a different title, Heavy Metal Army. The name is a pun on Deep Purple's celebrated live album Made in Japan, a neat nod from a young band to one of the hard rock records that came before them.
It arrived between the band's first two studio albums, Iron Maiden in 1980 and Killers in 1981, and a year before The Number of the Beast. As a short live release from that early stretch, it is a handy snapshot of Maiden as a touring band just before their big commercial leap.
