Best of the Beast
Best of the Beast was Iron Maiden's first "best of" collection, released by EMI on 23 September 1996. It appeared in several forms: a 34-track set across four vinyl discs, a 27-track double CD, and a 16-track single CD, which was also issued on MiniDisc.
The vinyl edition is the band's longest record release to date, running for more than three hours. It arrived a year after The X Factor, with two more studio albums still to come in the following decade, and it gave listeners a choice of how deep into the catalogue to go, from a compact overview to a sprawling survey of the band's career so far.
