Signify
Signify is the fourth album by Porcupine Tree, released on 30 September 1996. It is the first record Steven Wilson made with the whole band involved from the start; the earlier albums were essentially his solo projects, with occasional help from other musicians. That makes it a turning point, the moment Porcupine Tree began to work as a group rather than a one-man studio venture.
It is also the band's only krautrock-flavoured project, so it stands apart from the rest of their run of studio albums, which later took in Stupid Dream and In Absentia. A 2003 reissue added a second disc of demos, previously released on the cassette Insignificance, and the album came out on vinyl on 9 May 2011. For anyone tracing how Porcupine Tree became a band, this is the place to start.
