Spiral Circus

Spiral Circus is Porcupine Tree's first live album, taken from their first tour. The band recorded it straight from the mixing desk at three English venues in December 1993: the first half comes from shows at the BBC and The Borderline in London, the second from The Nag's Head in High Wycombe. It came out on Chromatic Records in 1993, falling between the studio albums Up the Downstair and The Sky Moves Sideways.

It began life as a cassette, given free to subscribers of the Transmission information service, and was later pressed on vinyl in a run limited to 500 copies. The title nods to a section of "The Sky Moves Sideways Phase 1", though that song isn't on the record. For anyone tracing how the band's psychedelic and progressive leanings sounded on stage in their early days, this is a neat snapshot.
