From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah
From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah is a live compilation drawn from Nirvana performances recorded between 1989 and 1994. Krist Novoselic put most of it together, and it arrived in autumn 1996, two years after MTV Unplugged in New York, the first Nirvana album released after Kurt Cobain's death in April 1994. The release date was 1 October 1996.
Where Unplugged was acoustic and hushed, this set shows the band at their heaviest. It was first planned as a double album with the Unplugged recordings, to be called Verse Chorus Verse, but most of the material was later recompiled. It entered the Billboard 200 at number one, and "Aneurysm" became a rock radio hit. Rolling Stone critics placed it ninth among the albums of 1996.
