Yourself or Someone Like You
Yourself or Someone Like You is the debut album from the American band Matchbox Twenty, released on 1 October 1996 on Lava. It opens the band's run of studio albums, which continued with Mad Season in 2000 and More Than You Think You Are in 2002, before North in 2012 and Where the Light Goes in 2023.
The record sits comfortably between alternative rock, post-grunge and pop rock, a blend that suited the radio-friendly end of 1990s guitar music. It went on to earn 12× Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, a sign of how firmly it took hold with listeners. If you want to hear where the band began, and the sound that set up everything that followed, this is the place to start.
