Live at Budokan
Live at Budokan is Dream Theater's fourth live album, recorded at the Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo on 26 April 2004. It came out on 5 October 2004 on three CDs or two DVDs, and arrived on Blu-ray on 18 October 2011. It sits between Train of Thought and Octavarium in the American progressive metallers' story.
The night had its share of drama. Jordan Rudess hit an equipment fault in the opening minutes, with wrong sounds, silence or stray notes, so he mimed his parts and had them re-recorded afterwards. That may explain the extra eight-minute improvised jam in "Beyond This Life". Time pressures also saw "The Great Debate", "Under a Glass Moon" and "Caught in a Web" dropped from the set, though the Osaka recording of them appears among the extras on the video versions. Fans of the band's live side will find plenty to enjoy here.
