When Dream and Day Unite
When Dream and Day Unite is the debut studio album from American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released on 6 March 1989 through Mechanic Records. Much of it draws on material from the group's early days under the name Majesty, so it captures the band at the very start of their story, with a sound that mixes progressive metal, rock and symphonic rock.
It is also the only Dream Theater record made with the full original line-up, and Charlie Dominici is the singer here. James LaBrie took over on vocals for every album that followed, beginning a new chapter that leads to Images and Words in 1992. For anyone who knows the later records, this is the place to hear where it all began, and how different the band's voice was before the change.
