The World of David Bowie
The World of David Bowie is a compilation released on 6 March 1970 by Decca as part of its The World of... series. It arrived in the wake of the "Space Oddity" single, when his earlier work for the label's Deram subsidiary suddenly had fresh interest. Bowie approved the track listing himself, and the sleeve photo was supplied by David Bebbington.
Most of it draws on his 1967 recordings, including all but four songs from his debut album David Bowie. Three tracks were previously unreleased: "Karma Man", "Let Me Sleep Beside You" and "In the Heat of the Morning". The 1966 B-side "The London Boys" is here too. It is a useful look at the folk-tinged rock of his earliest records, before The Man Who Sold the World appeared later in 1970. Decca reissued it in April 1973 with a Ziggy Stardust-era sleeve photo.
