Fame and Fashion (David Bowie’s All Time Greatest Hits)
Fame and Fashion (David Bowie's All Time Greatest Hits) is a compilation issued by RCA in 1984, on LP, cassette and CD. It gathers songs recorded between 1969's David Bowie and 1980's Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), with the subtitle printed on the labels, CD face and inserts.
It belongs to an awkward chapter in Bowie's story. He had left RCA in 1983, and the label kept cashing in on his popularity with compilations he had no say in. Most of the tracks had already appeared on Changesonebowie and Changestwobowie, the exceptions being "'Heroes'" and "TVC 15", while "Golden Years", "Fashion" and "Ashes to Ashes" had turned up on Golden Years less than a year earlier. The stereo channels are swapped on side two and its CD equivalents. Bowie soon reclaimed his catalogue, and this unauthorised set has never been reissued, which makes the original discs a collectors' curiosity today.
