The Collection
The Collection is a David Bowie compilation released in May 2005 on EMI Gold. Rather than rounding up the singles, it goes looking for the lesser-known corners of his catalogue, taking one album track from each studio record he made between David Bowie in 1969 and Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) in 1980.
The one exception is Pin Ups, the 1973 covers album, which doesn't feature. That leaves a quick tour through his most restless stretch, from the folk-tinged beginnings through the glam, soul and Berlin-era years. It makes a handy companion for anyone who already knows the hits and wants a few pointers to what sits beside them on the original albums.
