Bowie at the Beeb: The Best of the BBC Radio Sessions 68–72
Bowie at the Beeb gathers the best of David Bowie's BBC radio sessions recorded between 1968 and 1972, the years when he moved from a restless young songwriter to a glam rock star. Released on 26 September 2000 by Virgin, it draws on live performances made for the broadcaster rather than on his studio albums.
The first release came as a three-CD set. The third disc was a bonus recording of a show Bowie played on 27 June 2000 at the BBC Radio Theatre in Portland, part of his Mini Tour. Later editions kept only the first two discs. It is a useful companion to the records of the period, including Hunky Dory and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, and it lets you hear him in a more immediate setting.
