Serious Moonlight is a live document of David Bowie's tour of the same name, filmed in Vancouver on 12 September 1983. It first appeared as a concert video on VHS and laserdisc in 1984, then reached DVD in 2006. Time constraints meant "Star", "Stay", "The Jean Genie", "Red Sails" and "Modern Love" were cut from the original release, and they stayed out of the DVD edition too.
It comes from the year Bowie released Let's Dance, with Tonight following in 1984. The concert's audio and running order were later reused for the live album Serious Moonlight (Live '83), part of the Loving the Alien (1983–1988) box set in 2018 and issued separately the following year. That version closes with a Montreal recording of "Modern Love", made on 13 July 1983, which gives the missing song a place at the end.
