Station to Station

Station to Station is David Bowie's tenth studio album, released on 23 January 1976 through RCA Victor. It was the home of the Thin White Duke, the persona he adopted at the time, and it was made mostly at Cherokee Studios in Los Angeles in late 1975, soon after he finished filming The Man Who Fell to Earth. A still from that film appears on the cover. Bowie was deep in cocaine addiction during the sessions and later said he remembered almost none of it. Harry Maslin co-produced.

It is a record caught between phases. The funk and soul of Young Americans are still present, but the influence of German krautrock, especially Neu! and Kraftwerk, points ahead to the Berlin Trilogy that followed. The sessions also settled the core band of Carlos Alomar, George Murray and Dennis Davis, who stayed with him for the rest of the decade. Lyrically, it draws on Nietzsche, Aleister Crowley, mythology and religion. Start with "Golden Years", the single that led the way.
