My Iron Lung
My Iron Lung is Radiohead's third EP, built around the single of the same name and a handful of B-sides recorded while the band were working on The Bends. It came out in 1994 on Parlophone in the UK, with Capitol handling the US release. Radiohead produced it with John Leckie and Nigel Godrich, and it was the first time they worked with Godrich and the artist Stanley Donwood, both of whom have been involved in every Radiohead release since.
The title track was the band's answer to "Creep", the debut single that had both carried and boxed them in. They weren't happy with the studio take from RAK, so the released version is an edited live performance from the London Astoria in May 1994. It reached number 24 on the UK singles chart and later appeared on The Bends. Critics compared its shifts between verse and chorus to Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box", and later reviews heard it as a real step forward in the band's songwriting.
