Divine Intervention
Divine Intervention is Slayer's sixth studio album, released on 27 September 1994 on American Recordings. It arrived nearly four years after Seasons in the Abyss, and Tom Araya said the band spent more time on it than on their earlier records. It is also the first Slayer album with Paul Bostaph on drums, after original drummer Dave Lombardo left in 1992. The live album Decade of Aggression came out first, buying the label time to settle on how to handle the album's explicit content.
The songs draw on television, Rush Limbaugh, Reinhard Heydrich and Jeffrey Dahmer. Wes Benscoter painted the cover, reimagining the band's early "Slayergram" graphic. Critics were divided, and Kerry King has since said the final mix deserved more attention. Even so, it reached number eight on the Billboard 200 and number 15 in the UK, went gold in the US and Canada, and was followed by the EP Serenity in Murder.
