The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion
The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion is the second studio album by the Black Crowes, an American rock band working in a southern rock, blues rock and hard rock vein. It followed their debut, Shake Your Money Maker, from 1990. The title comes from the full name of The Southern Harmony, an influential hymnal compiled by William Walker in 1835.
This was a record of changes for the band. Marc Ford joined on lead guitar, taking the place of Jeff Cease, who had been fired the year before, and Eddie Harsch made his first appearance on keyboards. It came out on American Recordings, and it is the album where you can hear that new line-up take shape. It was released on 12 May 1992 in the US, and a day earlier in the UK and Europe.
