Before the Frost... Until the Freeze
Before the Frost... Until the Freeze is The Black Crowes' 2009 double album, released in August 2009. It was recorded in front of a live audience at The Barn, Levon Helm's studio in Woodstock, New York, in late February and early March that year. Paul Stacey, a longtime collaborator of the band, produced it, and it followed Warpaint, the band's studio album of 2008.
The two halves were handled differently. The CD carried only the Before the Frost portion, with a code to download Until the Freeze from the band's website, and the disc was designed to look like a vinyl record. The vinyl edition held all the same songs in a different running order. It is also the last album of original material to feature drummer Steve Gorman, guitarist Luther Dickinson and keyboardist Adam MacDougall, which gives it a particular place in the band's story.
