Croweology
Croweology is a double album of mostly acoustic reworkings from The Black Crowes, released in August 2010 on their own Silver Arrow label. It gathers nineteen songs from across their career, taking in everything from Shake Your Money Maker through to Lions, and adds a version of "She", written by Chris Ethridge and Gram Parsons. The southern rock, blues and folk threads that always ran through the band come to the front here.
It matters as a look back at the catalogue just before a long break: it was the last recording to feature lead guitarist Luther Dickinson, and the last studio record before the band's hiatus from 2013 to 2020. Critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine described it as the sound of seasoned veterans still finding new ways to play old favourites, and it makes a generous gift for the fans who stuck around.
