Greatest Hits 1990–1999: A Tribute to a Work in Progress
Greatest Hits 1990–1999: A Tribute to a Work in Progress is a compilation from The Black Crowes, released on 20 June 2000 through American Recordings and Columbia. It gathers material from every studio album the American band had made up to that point, so it covers the full first decade of their career.
That makes it a handy way into their bluesy, southern-tinged hard rock. The run starts with Shake Your Money Maker in 1990 and carries on through The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, Amorica, Three Snakes and One Charm and By Your Side. If you want the band's 1990s story in a single sitting, rather than picking through each record, this does the job. It reached number 143 on the Billboard 200 and appeared the year before Lions.
