20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best of Whitesnake
This compilation belongs to Geffen's 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection series, a budget-minded set of career overviews. It gathers the best of Whitesnake, the British-American hard rock band formed in London in 1978 by vocalist David Coverdale. It came out on 27 June 2000.
It arrived in the gap between the band's 1990 split and their permanent return in 2003, after Restless Heart in 1997. The group's biggest successes came in the late 1980s: the 1987 album Whitesnake reached number 2 on the Billboard 200, and "Here I Go Again" topped the Hot 100, while "Is This Love" climbed to number 2. For anyone wanting a compact route into Coverdale's blend of hard rock, blues rock and heavy metal, a single-disc collection like this is a handy place to begin.
