Restless Heart
Restless Heart is Whitesnake's ninth studio album, released in March 1997 on EMI. David Coverdale produced it and first planned it as a solo record, but the label pushed for it to appear as "David Coverdale & Whitesnake". It follows the band's late-80s peak and a split from Geffen Records in 1994, which meant it never had a North American release and could only be found there as an import.
The sound is more subdued than on the two albums before it, leaning towards a restrained, mature style of rock. It is also the only full-length Whitesnake studio album to feature guitarist Adrian Vandenberg throughout, despite his place in the group since 1987. Reviews were mixed and it reached number 34 in the UK, but it is an interesting record to hear as a farewell of sorts: the tour was billed as the band's last, until they reformed in 2003. Rhino reissued it in 2021 with remastered and remixed versions and previously unreleased material.
