Popularity24.5

The Early Years is a compilation from Whitesnake, issued by EMI on 23 February 2004. David Coverdale put the track listing together himself, drawing on the band's first stretch of records, from 1978's Trouble through to 1984's Slide It In.

That span takes in the early hard rock albums Trouble, Lovehunter, Ready an' Willing, Come an' Get It and Saints & Sinners, before the band's self-titled 1987 album and the records that followed. With the singer choosing the material, it works as a guided tour of the group's formative years. It suits anyone who knows Whitesnake mainly from the later period and wants to hear where it all began.
