Album
Saints & Sinners
Saints & Sinners is Whitesnake's fifth studio album, released on 15 November 1982. It was the last record made by the line-up that had played on Ready an' Willing, and the strain was showing. Band members had grown uneasy about the musical direction and about their management, even though the group were enjoying real success at home. Guy Bidmead began as producer in place of Martin Birch, who had overseen every previous Whitesnake album, but Birch came back to finish the job.
The turmoil didn't hurt it with the public. The album reached number nine on the UK Albums Chart and went gold, extending the band's run of gold or platinum records from the BPI. It also carries the first version of "Here I Go Again", issued as a single in October 1982, which reached number 34 in Britain. The song is the reason to seek this one out: Whitesnake re-recorded it in 1987, and that new take went on to define the band.
