Signals is Rush's ninth studio album, released on 9 September 1982. The Canadian trio began shaping the material during soundchecks on the 1981 tour that followed Moving Pictures, and carried on while mixing the live album Exit...Stage Left. It leans further into synthesizers, sequencers and other electronic instrumentation, a direction the band had been moving in for some time. It was also the last record produced by Terry Brown, who had worked with them since 1974.

The album reached No. 1 in Canada, No. 3 in the UK and No. 10 in the US, and went platinum in America by November 1982. "New World Man" became the band's highest-charting US single and a Canadian number one, while "Subdivisions" and "Countdown" also came out as singles. A tour ran from April 1982 to May 1983, and a 2011 remaster added new stereo and 5.1 surround mixes. It's a key record for hearing the band's synth-driven turn.
