Archives, released in 1978 by Mercury Records, is a compilation from Rush, the Canadian band formed in Willowdale, Toronto, in 1968. It came out in the US, the UK and Europe in the same year, and it appeared while the band was still early in its recording life, just a few years on from its debut album of 1974.

The timing makes it a handy marker in the Rush story. By then the line-up of Geddy Lee on bass, keyboards and vocals, Alex Lifeson on guitar and Neil Peart on drums and lyrics had been settled since Peart replaced John Rutsey in July 1974. The band had also already made 2112 and A Farewell to Kings, and Hemispheres arrived in the same year. Archives suits anyone wanting to hear the group's progressive hard rock as it stood at the end of the seventies.
