All the World’s a Stage

Popularity56.6

All the World's a Stage is Rush's first live album, a double set released on 29 September 1976 by Mercury Records. It was recorded over three nights, 11 to 13 June 1976, at Massey Hall in Toronto, during the tour for 2112. The title nods to Shakespeare's As You Like It, a line the band would return to in their 1981 song "Limelight".

It arrives at a turning point in the Canadian trio's story. 2112 had just given them their breakthrough, and this record captures them on home ground while that momentum was fresh. For anyone who knows Rush mainly through the polished studio albums that followed, it is a chance to hear their early hard rock, heavy metal and progressive leanings played live. European listeners had to wait until March 1977 to get it.
