Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned
Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned is the fourth studio album by The Prodigy, released on 11 August 2004. It followed The Fat of the Land by seven years, and it takes a different path from the records that came before. Liam Howlett made it almost entirely in Propellerhead Reason, mastering it in Pro Tools, and it leans on vocals far more than its predecessor did.
The big talking point is who plays on it. Keith Flint and Maxim Reality make no contribution to the official record, so Howlett is the only band member heard, which has happened on no other Prodigy album. The title riffs on a Walter Mosley novel. Sales were healthy at first, though it ranks among their weaker sellers, and the group left XL and Maverick after the compilation Their Law: The Singles 1990–2005. It is worth hearing as the Prodigy at their most stripped back to one man.
