Wolverine Blues
Wolverine Blues is the third studio album by Swedish death metal band Entombed, released on 31 August 1993 by Earache Records. It followed Left Hand Path and Clandestine, and it brought back vocalist LG Petrov, who had sung on the band's debut. The title, and the song that shares it, owes nothing to the Marvel character. It comes from James Ellroy's novel The Big Nowhere, in which a serial killer identifies with the animal.
What makes it worth hearing is the shift in sound. Entombed kept much of their death metal grounding but added hard rock and heavy metal elements, settling into a mid-tempo groove that recalls Pantera. The mix became known as death 'n' roll, and this record is where you can hear it taking shape. It's a useful one to play after the first two albums, to hear how far the band moved.
